When Motivation Fails..
You ever had a moment where you have this huge goal and you’re trying to make it happen but it seem like internal and external forces don’t want you to be great? Have you established the greatest plan, schedule, and routine and yet you still fail miserably in trying to implement it? Yeah, me too. So what do you do when that “self-discipline" isn’t enough. Keep reading for some suggestions!
1. Hit That “Reset” Button
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
Stop. Just stop. Take your hands off the goal. Put down the utensils. Close the books and notebooks. Turn off the podcast. Get away from the noise and seek God.
Take time out and spend quality time with God. Just with you and Him alone. Whether that may be going for a walk, watching a movie, sharing a meal, worshipping, or simply reading your Word give Him your undivided attention. He may have a word to encourage you, and remind you of why and what you are doing.
2. Help You Help Yourself
“Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend [to show rage or worthy purpose].”
Proverbs 27:17 (AMPC)
Aight Homegirl, now that we hit reset, and got reconnected with God let’s address your environment. Yes, let’s investigate what spun you out of your focus.
As I have said in previous posts, distractions show up and it’s usually because you are close to what God is calling you to do. You are so very close to that breakthrough. BUT there’s a foothold somewhere that is allowing the enemy to sneak in and deter you.
Here are some questions to help you get started on this investigation:
What do you have around you? Your room? Your apartment?
Who are the people or things that you are entertaining?
What are your social media or Hulu/ Netflix habits?
What are you fearful of? What are you trying to avoid? Why?
I encourage you to seek scripture, meditate, and pray on it. And when God reveals what’s tripping you up, make the moves, and address it. Don’t hesitate!
3. Just Do It
“Be strong and of good courage, and do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)
Following Don’t hesitate. Homegirl, JUST DO IT!
Yes, this may happen again or it might not. Yes, you may be still nervous in putting yourself out there and thinking of the worst case scenario. However, God has provided you with the direction. Trust that God will keep His promise that He will never leave you.
Your journey with God is YOUR JOURNEY WITH GOD. It will not look like everyone else’s and it will not be like everyone else’s. You might have to circle around the same thing a few times to understand and get how to move in this situation. So forgive yourself for any mistakes you have made along the way. Make the conscious decision to make the move and just do it. God’s great gift of grace and mercy is available to you.
You have made it to this post for a reason and I hope you were able to take away some things to help you with your walk with Christ, and to improve your mental health.
I AM SOOO PROUD OF YOU! KEEP GOING! GOD IS WITH YOU!
